For most communities, every $1 invested in water fluoridation saves $38 in dental treatment costsADA Fluoridation Facts

The benefits of community water fluoridation have been proven through countless scientific studies. Safe and effective, it has been cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as one of the top ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th Century. Sadly, there are still cities in the state that go without, but the tide is swiftly changing.

Thanks, in part, to efforts led by the CDA Foundation, California now has 23.2 million residents (62.5 percent of the population) receiving fluoridated water, a significant increase from 17 percent in the 1990s. The remarkable effort earned California the State Fluoridation Initiative Award, and the CDA Foundation was recognized by the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors.

But the battle isn’t over. Even with our great progress, California ranks 36th among states in the percentage of the population receiving fluoridated water. That’s why we remain committed to the effort of helping California residents have stronger, healthier teeth.

Impact:
Today, 23.3 million residents, 62.5 percent of the state’s population receive the benefits of fluoride, compared to only 17 percent in the late 1990s.
