Loma Linda’s Brian B. Nový, DDS is the latest recipient of the prestigious CDA Foundation Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award.
LLU’s Nový receives Dugoni Faculty Award
The CDA Foundation established the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award in 2004 in recognition of Dugoni’s accomplishments in dental education and organized dentistry. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge and support individual faculty for their exceptional leadership, innovation, collaboration, compassion, philanthropic spirit and integrity in dental education.
Dr. Nový is an assistant professor at Loma Linda University (LLU) School of Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He is currently a member of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry, American Institute of Oral Biology, Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Dental Education Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, and CDA (Tri-County).
Colleagues describe him as an “excellent leader, one of the most innovative teachers, who is very creative, interesting and is a mentor who has a deeply embedded character trait of compassion for those in need.” His students view him as “a role model for dentistry at its finest.”
He began at LLU as a student volunteer for the LLU Service Learning Department in March 2003. In his senior year of dental school he began a teaching assistantship in September 2005, and became a full-time faculty member in June 2006. He teaches LLU’s Dental Materials, and is course director for Evidence Based Dentistry, and Etiology and Management of Dental Caries. He also supervises and instructs in the predoctoral clinic, evaluates students’ competency in restorative dental procedures, teaches continuing education courses, and represents the Restorative Department at national meetings.
Prior to joining LLU as full-time faculty, he sought public and community health experience in working with the Compassion Clinic providing free dental care to recovering addicts and recently released felons in San Bernardino, California. He plans to use the $5,000 award money to obtain his fellowship in the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and fund a preliminary research project assessing the efficacy of minimally invasive treatment modalities in a local elementary school.
The Arthur A. Dugoni Endowment Fund provides funding for the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award. The next award will be given in 2009. Visit the CDA Foundation website for more information about the award or to donate to the endowment fund.
