The CDA Foundation awarded the 2009 Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award to UCSF Dental School’s Ram Mohan Vaderhobli, BDS, MS.
Dugoni Faculty Award Recipient from UCSF Dental School
Dr. Vaderhobli is a health sciences assistant clinical professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences. He teaches UCSF’s Fixed Prosthodontics, Preventive and Restorative Dentistry, Dental Materials, Laser Dentistry, and Esthetics courses. Currently, Dr. Vaderhobli is volunteering as a preceptor for the UCSF’s Children’s Health Hut, a community service dental program. He is a member of the International Association of Dental Research, American Association of Dental Research, American Dental Education Association, Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Dental Association, and CDA (San Francisco).
Vaderhobli graduated from dental school in 1999 earning his BDS in Bangalore, India. Vaderhobli then attended State University of New York at Alfred University, New York graduating in 2003 with his MS in Biomaterials.. He went on from here to work with the ADA-Paffenbarger Research Center, MD as an invited guest scientist, and later, as a research specialist and a consultant to dental material companies. He continued his education by completing his AEGD residency at Eastman Dental School, University of Rochester in 2006. He holds dental licenses in India, New York and California, and holds an American Laser Dentistry Standard Proficiency Certification.
Dr. Vaderhobli has received honors and awards such as the 2005 Basil Bibby Fellowship Grant/Award for Excellence in Oral Health, and the 2006 Basil Bibby Award for Outstanding Scientific Merit, amongst many others.
Vaderhobli is known to his colleagues and students as “a wonderful instructor who is always available for students and gives excellent feedback, talented clinician, very encouraging and supportive, and full of energy and enthusiasm.” Vaderhobli is also known as an “early enthusiasts in the use of dental lasers at UCSF predoctoral clinics.”
Vaderhobli has indicated that this award will lay the groundwork for lasting achievement and responsible leadership, which will contribute toward his success in preparing students to grow professionally in the future. Vaderhobli states that this award will also “increase his confidence to initiate and implement noticeable change with creative leadership at all levels at UCSF.” His commitment to a career in academic dentistry has grown stronger over the years and he looks forward to the innovations, research, shared vision and growth that he can contribute to the UC
community through this award.
About the award
CDA established the Dugoni Faculty Award in 2004 in recognition of Dugoni’s accomplishments in dental education and organized dentistry. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge and support individual faculty for their exceptional leadership, innovation, collaboration, compassion, philanthropic spirit and integrity in dental education.
