Two New Recipients Awarded
CDA Foundation Student Loan Repayment Program Allows Dentists to Work in Underserved Communities
Two California dentists have recently been afforded the opportunity to work in an underserved community of their choice thanks to the CDA Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant Program.
Drs. Nam Hoang and James Forester are the latest recipients of the community service grants that assist new dentists in reducing their dental student debt in exchange for practicing in an underserved community for a minimum of three years. This unique program helps offset the burden of loan repayment for new dentists, while providing much-needed care to underserved and rural communities across California. Graduating from dental school with an average student debt of $250,000 is a tremendous burden to these new dentists, particularly to those who have a passion and desire to practice in community health like Drs. Hoang and Forester. The Foundation’s Student Loan Repayment Grant Program provides up to $105,000 over a three-year period to reduce their student loan debt.
Dr. Forester, a 2002 graduate of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, is serving at La Clinica de Tolosa in Paso Robles, specializing in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Hoang, a 2004 graduate of UOP is working at the Chapa-De Indian Health Program, Inc., in Auburn which serves the large population of local native Indians.
