So Cal Fires Relief Assistance

The CDA Foundation SoCAL Disaster Relief Grant is a one-time, single-installment grant that provides financial assistance of up to $2,500 per California dentist, dental staff member, or component staff member for immediate and emergency needs (food, shelter, clothing, etc.) as a direct result of the wildfires. These grants are provided through the CDA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. The Disaster Relief Fund furthers the exempt purpose of the CDA Foundation by making grants available to eligible recipients in order to restore emergency dental care in areas affected by disasters and to provide a small measure of emergency financial assistance to members of the dental profession who are victims of disasters.

Applicants are deemed appropriate for relief at the discretion of the CDA Foundation Board of Directors. The Board may use its authority to delegate the review and recommendation of grant recipients to the Grant Selection Committee. All applications for relief are to be submitted to the CDA Foundation directly.

Applicant Criteria

  • One complete application must be received for each individual seeking emergency assistance.
  • Grants are available to California dentists; staff members working for a dentist; and CDA component dental society staff members.  Applicants are not required to be members of the California Dental Association in order to be eligible for receipt of monies.
  • Up to $2,500 is available for each eligible person that is impacted by the wildfires. For example, if a doctor’s practice is lost to the fire and the staff are displaced while the practice is relocated, the doctor along with all his/her staff may each individually apply for a grant. Similarly, if a dentist loses his/her home, the dentist may submit an application for all the immediate family members living in the house at the time of the fire to assist with the immediate needs of food, shelter, and clothing, etc.
  • All applications will be reviewed based on the need of the individual. A submission of a SoCAL Disaster Relief Grant application does not automatically entitle the applicant to a grant.
  • Individuals may not receive more than one emergency grant.
  • Disaster grants are for meeting immediate and emergency needs of the individual.
  • Disaster grants are not insurance.

It is not the purpose of the Relief Grant funds to:

  1. Provide continuing assistance when the beneficiary is eligible for, or receiving, satisfactory aid from local, state or federal agencies.
  2. Provide funds for the payment of insurance premiums or deficit in insurance coverages.
  3. Provide assistance solely to conserve the resources or assets of an applicant.
